Import duty

A tax levied by customs on goods brought into a country, usually calculated as a percentage of their customs value.

The import duty rate is set by the tariff schedule for each HS code and applied to the declared customs value, sometimes together with VAT and excise. In the EAEU the Common Customs Tariff sets a shared rate for Russia, Kazakhstan and other member states.

Frequently asked questions

How is import duty calculated?
Duty is normally the tariff rate for the product's HS code multiplied by its customs (declared) value, plus any VAT or excise due.
What is the difference between import duty and a tariff?
A tariff is the published schedule of rates; import duty is the actual amount charged on a given shipment under that schedule.
